When Contents Are Affected By Mold
6/5/2019 (Permalink)
If mold has affected a sizable spot of your home it is critical to have it professionally remediated. But what do you do when mold affects other things - the contents and furnishings such as toys, contents, playthings, blankets, bedding, books and clothing? We see an increase in mold issues after heavy Spring rains such as those we had this year in LODI.
Here are our common sense suggestions:
Bath Toys - often fill with trapped water, mold breeding ground. DISCARD.
Bedding/Blankets/Clothing - Fibers are food for mold and generally even laundering at sterilize settings may not remove the odor. DISCARD & REPLACE.
Books - Paper and glue are food for mold. DISCARD.
Plush Toys - DISCARD.
Hard Surface Plastic and Wood Contents- can sometimes be cleaned.
What if it is a special item, though recommended for discard? Ask us - we will advise if there is a chance it can be restored in any way. We understand some items have sentimental value but they may no longer be suitable for use.
We recommend that an independent assessment be completed when you have visible mold in your home over 10 SF. They will report which specific items must be discarded when we come in to remediate your mold.
